Joe Marcinek Teams With George Porter Jr., Melvin Seals & Eric Imbrosciano For ‘Dead Funk Summit’

Guitarist Joe Marcinek, keyboardist Melvin Seals, bassist George Porter Jr. and drummer Eric Imbrosciano teamed up for as Dead Funk Summit at Boulder’s Fox Theatre on Friday night. The quartet played a mix of Joe’s originals, funk classics including a Meters’ song and Grateful Dead covers for their visit to the Fox.

Marcinek led the group on an interpretation of Allen Toussaint’s “Get Out Of My Life, Woman” to open the set. The four-piece then tackled Joe’s “George Washington.” Next up were funky takes on the Grateful Dead’s “West L.A. Fadeaway” and the Meters’ “Hey Pocky A-Way.” George went on the front the ensemble on a number of songs from the Dead’s repertoire including “Eyes Of The World,” “Franklin’s Tower” and “Sugaree.”

Towards the end of the evening, drummer New Orleans-based drummer Terrence Houston emerged to join in on “Turn On Your Love Light.” Dead Funk Summit then concluded with Marcinek’s “Funnily” and the Dead’s “Shakedown Street.” Watch a series of videos captured by Kyle Isaac below:
