Gov’t Mule welcomed Widespread Panic guitarist Jimmy Herring to share the stage at the LOCKN’ Festival on September 13, 2015. Relix recently posted pro-shot video featuring Herring’s appearance with the Mule on “Stratus” during the Sunday afternoon set.
Both Gov’t Mule and Widespread Panic played multiple sets at the event in Arrington, Virginia. While LOCKN’ 2015 was originally slated as a four-day festival, weather forced organizers to cancel the first day. Mule performed a late-night set in the Blue Ridge Bowl on Saturday and then took the main stage for a Sunday afternoon matinee. Panic treated fans to marathon sets on Saturday and Sunday.

Jimmy Herring emerged halfway through Gov’t Mule’s Sunday afternoon performance to join the quartet on a cover of Billy Cobham’s “Stratus.” Herring has a long history with Mule frontman Warren Haynes that includes both guitarists’ long stint together in the Phil Lesh & Friends lineup known by fans as The “Q” or Phil Lesh Quintet. Haynes fit in teases of Little Feat’s “Skin It Back” at the start of “Stratus” and repaid the sit-in favor later in the day by guesting with Widespread Panic on “Ribs & Whiskey” and “Tail Dragger.”
