Jim James of My Morning Jacket joined The Roots, a string section and choir for a version of “Dear God 2.0” that was originally broadcast on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on June 18, 2010. The host called it “one of [his] favorite performances” and aired it again during last night’s at-home edition of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The Roots included “Dear God 2.0” on their 2010 studio album, How I Got Over. “Dear God 2.0” is a revised version of “Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F.),” which was featured on supergroup Monsters of Folk‘s self-titled 2009 LP. James was joined in Monsters Of Folk by Conor Oberst, M. Ward and Mike Mogis, each of whom contributed to the How I Got Over rendition of “Dear God 2.0.”

“We here at the Tonight Show are so lucky to work with The Roots every single night for 11 years now,” Fallon said. “Here’s one of my favorite performances — The Roots doing ‘Dear God 2.0’ with Yim Yames [the name Jim James went by at the time] — check it out.” Watch “Dear God 2.0” below:
