Jessica Pratt released a new single, “The Last Year.” The track is the final preview of the singer-songwriter’s upcoming album, Here in the Pitch, due out Friday, May 3 via Mexican Summer.
Along with closing the advance single cycle for Here in the Pitch — which also included “Life Is” and “World on a String” — “The Last Year” also closes the album. The Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter described the record as “the dark side of the Californian dream.”

“I spend a lot of time worrying and imagining bad things happening,” Pratt continued. “So maybe the idea of creatively inhabiting a character who wields power is interesting.”
Despite the record’s dark turns, Pratt characterizes the “The Last Year” as having a “weird optimism.” Haunted by Pratt’s ethereal voice and thinned out guitar, “The Last Year” walks away on a wistful piano meoldy from Al Carlson.
