Jerry Joseph & Steve James Wright Sit-In With Widespread Panic In Bend

By Andy Kahn Jul 3, 2016 9:53 am PDT

On the 14th anniversary of late founding guitarist Michael Houser’s final performance with Widespread Panic, a pair of guitarists sat-in with the band at their first of two shows at Les Schwab Amphitheater in Bend, Oregon. Jerry Joseph & The Jackmormons opened for WSP last night and the frontman and his bassist (playing guitar) joined the headliners later in the evening.

The band’s debut appearance in Bend opened with “Pigeons,” and after delivering longtime staples such as “Henry Parsons Died,” “Send Your Mind,” and “Hatfield,” The Jackmormons bassist Steve James Wright came out with his guitar to join in on a cover of Neil Young’s “Vampire Blues.”

Set two continued with more classic WSP originals, “The Take Out,” “Space Wrangler,” and “Conrad” and later saw the first cover of Curtis Mayfield’s “Pusherman” in more than a year. After “Drums,” Joseph came out to add guitar to a cover of Funkadelic’s “Maggot Brain” and supplied vocals on the rendition of his “North” that ended the set. Head to PanicStream to listen to last night’s show including the “Aunt Avis” and “Porch Song” encore.

Widespread Panic plays the Les Schwab Amphitheater in Bend again tonight with Jerry Joseph & The Jackmormons also opening. As always, a live audio stream is available via LiveWidespreadPanic.com.
