After an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in Manhattan on Tuesday, Jeff Tweedy headed across the East River for a performance at Brooklyn Steel. The show saw Tweedy’s Wilco bandmate and New York City resident Nels Cline sitting in on the Neil Young classic “Cortez The Killer.”
Jeff Tweedy is touring around his new triple LP, Twilight Override, which arrived on September 26 via dBpm Records. At the tour stop in Brooklyn, Tweedy and his solo band — including his children Spencer Tweedy and Sammy Tweedy as well as Sima Cunningham, Macie Stewart and Liam Kazar — performed over half of the new record’s 30 tracks including emerging favorites “One Tiny Flower,” “Caught Up In The Past” and “Lou Reed Was My Baby Sitter.”
Speaking of Lou Reed, following “Twilight Override” to open the encore, Tweedy and company covered The Velvet Underground‘s “Who Loves The Sun.” Next, Nels Cline came on to help the band out on Neil Young’s “Cortez The Killer,” on which the distinctive guitarist delivered a pummeling solo. After “Cortez,” Jeff Tweedy and band went it alone to to seal the show with Twilight Override standout, “Enough.”
