Jeff Tweedy Kicks Off 2018 North American Spring Tour In Royal Oak

Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy began a North American Tour on Thursday night at Royal Oak Music Theatre in Royal Oak, Michigan. Tweedy focused on Wilco classics but also worked in songs from his other projects as well as three recently debuted originals.

Jeff opened the 21-song performance with “Via Chicago” in which he played both guitar and harmonica. While Wilco is taking 2018 off, Tweedy had played a series of concerts in the U.K. earlier this year. “Bombs Above” was debuted late last year and was performed at all of the U.K. shows. The guitarist fit “Bombs Above” into the two-slot in Royal Oak. Next up was “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart.” He then dipped into the Uncle Tupelo catalog for “New Madrid” ahead of “Impossible Germany.” From there, Jeff treated the audience to “Don’t Forget We All Think About Dying” – a tune he debuted in Dublin on January 30.

Golden Smog was represented in the set by “Lost Love,” while Loose Fur’s “Laminated Cut” also found its way into the set. “Noah’s Flood (Let’s Go Rain Again)” was the third and final song Jeff recently debuted that he performed in Michigan on Thursday. Tweedy concluded the 18-song frame with a run of Wilco gems that included “Bull Black Nova,” “Passenger Side,” “I’m The Man Who Loves You,” “A Shot In The Arm” and more.

Jeff Tweedy ended the concert with a three-song encore. Up first was “We’ve Been Had” from his Uncle Tupelo days. Then, the Illinois native played “Theologians” off Wilco’s A Ghost Is Born ahead of a rare solo acoustic “Handshake Drugs.” Jeff will now cross the border into Canada for a series of shows that starts on Saturday night in Hamilton, Ontario.
