Journalist and podcast host Steven Hyden was chosen by Wilco to write the liner notes for the deluxe edition of Being There, which is due out on Friday. Hyden was a perfect choice to talk to the two remaining founding members of the group, Jeff Tweedy and John Stirratt, about the birth of Wilco and their first two albums for his Celebration Rock podcast.
Tweedy and Stirratt rarely give joint interviews these days and it was particularly interesting to hear the pair chat. The first topic discussed was how Wilco was formed and their earliest days. Jeff talked about leaving Uncle Tupelo, while John detailed how quickly the new band entered the studio. The pair went on to chat with Hyden about how 1995’s A.M. and 1996’s Being There came together. John and Jeff also talked the Wilco Loft and the hiatus which just started.
