Jason Isbell, Amanda Shires and Seth Plemmons covered Jackson Browne during Shires’ I So Lounging livestream on Friday. The trio covered Browne’s “These Days.”
The livestream finds Jason, Amanda and Seth hilariously messing around on the ZZ Top classic “La Grange.” Jason talks about texting ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons and Amanda details the discovery of her hair crimper. The trio then gets into Shires’ “When You Need A Train It Never Comes” featuring Amanda on 4-string guitar. The song appears on Shires’ 2011 album Carrying Lightning.

The gang then plays Jackson Browne’s “These Days.” Browne wrote the gorgeous tune when he was just 16 years old. The song was originally recorded by Velvet Underground collaborator Nico on her 1967 album Chelsea Girl and a slew of musicians have since covered it over the years including Gregg Allman. Browne included it on his 1973 album For Everyman. For the I So Lounging performance, Shires and Isbell harmonize beautifully with Amanda adding fiddle over a guitar solo from Jason.
After some humorous banter about Twitter and famous people asking for other famous people’s phone numbers, the trio performs the closing track, “Tour Of Duty,” on ’s 2011 album Here We Rest. The performance features some flying fiddle from Shires and more stellar harmonies. The trio closes out the session with a jam called “Lost Wash Cloth Blues.”
