Jason Isbell & Amanda Shires Cover John Prine At The Caverns

By Andy Kahn Oct 11, 2020 1:02 pm PDT

Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires covered John Prine’s “Storm Windows” yesterday on what would have been Prine’s 74th birthday. The tribute came at the start of the encore at Saturday’s Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit concert at The Caverns in Pelham, Tennessee.

Saturday’s socially distanced show at The Caverns was moved up to an afternoon start to avoid severe weather. The wet weather held up enough for Isbell and his band to play a full set that featured eight songs of their recently issued album, Reunions.

At the start of Saturday’s encore, Isbell played acoustic guitar alongside Shires’ fiddle for a rendition of “Storm Windows.” When the song ended, Isbell wished Prine a happy birthday. Prine died in April after being hospitalized with COVID-19.

Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit return to The Caverns for another show tonight (Sunday, October 11) Footage of the conclusion of “Storm Windows” and photos from Saturday’s matinee concert at The Caverns taken by Erika Goldring (@blondeambitiontour) can be viewed below:
