The 4th installment of The Jammys was held at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City on this date in 2004. Included among the highlights at the award ceremony/all-star concert was Black Crowes members Chris Robinson, Rich Robinson and Eddie Harsch sharing the stage for the first time in nearly three years ahead of the band’s full-fledged reunion the following year.

The Black Crowes began a live hiatus on October 31, 2001 that would last until March 14, 2005. Chris Robinson was on hand at the Jammys to present Steve Winwood with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Gov’t Mule played a short set as part of the festivities and invited Chris to lead them on a cover of Neil Young’s “Southern Man.”

Then, Warren & Co. brought out Rich and Eddie which was the trio’s first time performing together since Halloween ’01. Chris, Rich and Eddie teamed with Warren Haynes, Matt Abts, Danny Louis and Andy Hess on the Crowes classic “Sometimes Salvation.” Hess was the Crowes’ bassist when they began the hiatus, but would be replaced by Sven Pipien in 2005.

The performance helped to lay the groundwork for the return of The Black Crowes in March of 2005. Watch Gov’t Mule and three members of the Black Crowes perform “Sometimes Salvation”:
