Video of Holly’s guest appearance has surfaced and can be viewed below.
Last night Umphrey’s McGee began a series of three shows in Michigan with a visit to 20 Monroe Live in Grand Rapids. Guitarist Jake Cinninger was back in the fold after missing last weekend’s performances with the flu. In other news, the band was joined by pianist Holly Bowling at one point during the second set and unveiled a massive bust out during the first set.
Umphrey’s came out of the gates the “Flamethrower” > “The Floor” after which guitarist Brendan Bayliss noted the return of Jake. Cinninger then showed off his massive skill set on “Mulche’s Odyssey.” Later in the set UM dusted off the instrumental “Visions” for the first time in nearly a year, but that was all prelude to the six-piece busting out the Motown classic “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg” for the first time in over 11 years. Umphrey’s had last played the tune way back on December 5, 2005 – a span of 1,241 shows.
The band opened the second set with the first ever pairing of the “Soul Food” trilogy. “Soul Food I” led into “Soul Food II,” which featured the talents of Holly Bowling, before UM played “Soul Food III” for just the second time. “Conduit” came next and gave way to a rare cover of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb.” The second set ended with “Partyin’ Peeps” and “JaJunk” ahead of an encore featuring “Kimble” and “Gulf Stream.” Umphrey’s now heads to Detroit for two nights at The Fillmore.
