Jake Cinninger To Miss Upcoming Umphrey’s McGee Concerts
By Andy Kahn Jan 26, 2017 • 9:06 am PST
Illness will prevent Jake Cinninger from performing with Umphrey’s McGee at their upcoming run of shows. The guitarist will be sitting out “a handful of shows” beginning with tonight’s appearance at College Street Music Hall in New Haven, Connecticut.
According to the band’s announcement, “Jake has come down with a wicked flu” and won’t be able to perform as planned. The six-piece will at least partially remain a six-piece for the time being as prior-scheduled special guest saxophonist Joshua Redman is on board for tonight’s show as well as tomorrow at the State Theatre in Portland, Maine which will feature an all improvised second set. Redman will also be with UM for Saturday’s show at the Palace Theatre in Albany, New York and at Anthology in Rochester on Sunday night.
UM will update when more information about Jake’s return is available. Here’s the message from the band:
We hear UM fans like improvisation? By definition, you can’t really prepare for improv, much like we weren’t expecting to have to perform a handful of shows without Jake Cinninger.
We regret that Jake has come down with a wicked flu and will not be able to play the next few shows. As a reminder, Joshua Redman will be sharing the stage with us all week long so you will be in for a ride regardless.
We’ll update you when we have additional information, look forward to having Jake back soon, and appreciate your understanding. Onward & Upward.
