Jackie Greene & Others Join Gov’t Mule In Atlantic City

Gov’t Mule kicked off their New Year’s Run of shows on Friday night with a concert at Borgata Events Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Previewing Sunday’s The Rocking Mule Revue New Year’s Eve show at The Beacon Theatre in New York City, special guests Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton and The Better Half Singers joined Mule last night in New Jersey.

Frontman Warren Haynes led the group through an opening take on “Thorazine Shuffle.” Mule then worked a rendition of The Allman Brothers Band’s “Mountain Jam” within “Game Face.” Later in the set Pelton emerged to sit-in on drums accompanied by The Better Half Singers featuring the wives of Mule members Danny Louis and Jorgen Carlsson, vocalists Machan Taylor and Mini Carlsson, as well as Elaine Caswell for “Million Miles From Yesterday” and “Sarah, Surrender.” Greene then came aboard for “Sugaree” and the singers left for the set closing “32/20 Blues.”

The second set featured Pelton joining in on newer cuts “Traveling Tune” and “Revolution Come, Revolution Go.” The Better Half Singers came back mid-set to assist on “Easy Times” and “Dreams & Song” and Pelton was in on the action during “Mule” and the set closer “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home,” the latter of which included Greene’s participation. Jackie was also onstage for the encore made up of two Neil Young classics: “Cinnamon Girl” and “Tonight’s The Night.”

Gov’t Mule heads to The Beacon Theatre for “an evening with” performance tonight. Tomorrow they’ll present the above mentioned The Rocking Mule Revue New Year’s Eve show featuring last night’s guests and The Chronic Horns. Watch an audience-shot clip of “Sugaree” captured by bogart71 below:
