Jack White Has Strong Words For Rolling Stone At Fenway

Noted baseball fan Jack White, who visited many ballparks this summer, made his Fenway Park debut on Wednesday night. White and his band performed in what’s called Fenway’s “Bleacher Theater,” in which the stage was set up facing the bleachers and a few grandstand sections as opposed to the full stadium layout used for such acts as Billy Joel, Phish, The Police and the Dave Matthews Band. The Third Man Records label head took a few moments during his set to lash out at Rolling Stone.

Jack took a few moments during his set to address and banter with the crowd. At first he took a shot at popstars and mentioned his band doesn’t have two guitarists who play the same parts like Foo Fighters, before turning his attention to Rolling Stone. “If everybody could in this whole stadium, please go to RollingStone.com tomorrow they’ve paid me zero dollars to plug them for tomorrow so make sure that they get at least a million clicks of mouse clicks tomorrow for RollingStone.com, brought to you by Jack White. That number again RollingStone.com! Brought to you by the Kardashian family, RollingStone.com!” White said. His comments continued with, “Fifteen outfits that will blow your mind that Taylor Swift wore this month, RollingStone.com! 10 reasons why RollingStone.com didn’t cover the Newport Folk Festival for 50 years straight! 12 reasons Rolling Stone won’t put a black and white cover on the cover of their magazine unless you’re dead. Did you know Jann Wenner also owns US Magazine, the tabloid capital of magazines? Keeping paparazzi alive for more than 20 years, US Magazine by Jann Wenner.”

At this point Jack wanted to note he was just bantering with the crowd and that this wasn’t an rant, “Okay I’m officially supposed to stop now because this is becoming a Kanye West-esque rant for RollingStone.com because apparently now a days you’re not allowed to talk to your fans about anything lest it be a rant. So forget ISIS, forget the war in the Middle East, forget any problems at home, forget gay marriage, forget everything you ever thought about everything, this is not a rant this is just me saying hello Cleveland!” He then ended the banter with “this is brought to you by RollingStone.com!”

Listen to a recording of how it went down:

Here’s the setlist from last night’s show:

UPDATE 12:30 p.m.: As mentioned, White briefly discussed Foo Fighters during his comments last night. Jack’s reps sent out the following statement:

Last night Jack White made a joke on stage!

There was a minor equipment mishap, specifically with his guitar, and in an effort to keep his audience engaged, he made a joke! It was meant to be funny and self deprecating: “hey sorry, you’re stuck with just me up here…” vs the Foo Fighters who have three guitar players on stage and regularly play stadium shows.

Jack has the upmost respect for the Foo Fighters and communicated with Grohl this morning.

So if you’ll let us, we’ll all continue with our day and we assure you: All is well in the rock n roll world.

As for the Foos, they had a “statement” of their own:
