Jack Antonoff‘s Bleachers band released “Modern Girl,” their first new music since issuing the album Take The Sadness Out Of Saturday Night in 2021. The track, which sounds like it would fit on a Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band album circa 1985, is the first taste of a forthcoming LP.

“Modern Girl” is the initial studio cut put out by Bleachers’ new label Dirty Hit. The song is featured in the final season of Netflix show Sex Education which hit the streaming service today.

Director Alex Lockett created a video for “Modern Girl.” In the video, the band members perform the song complete with dueling saxophones in a space with checkerboard-tile. The visual mixes performance footage and Bleachers palling around. Antonoff shouts out his home state of New Jersey within the lyrics and employs a tomato in the video to reference The Garden State.

While Bleachers hadn’t put out new music in two years, Antonoff has kept busy as an in-demand producer. Projects included Taylor Swift’s 2022 LP Midnights, Lana Del Rey’s recently released record Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd and The 1975’s latest effort Being Funny In A Foreign Language.
