‘Instrumenthead’ Exhibition In Nashville To Benefit Tunes For Tots

During photographer Michael Weintrob’s 1998 photo session with the Derek Trucks Band, bassist Todd Smallie put his bass down his shirt which obscured the musician’s face. This incident was the genesis for Instrumenthead, a portrait series that has seen Weintrob capture similar images of over 400 musicians from the jam scene and well beyond. Weintrob will host an Instrumenthead exhibition at his photography studio and gallery in Nashville between December 28 and 31 with proceeds goings towards Widespread Panic’s Tunes For Tots charity.

The exhibit will open on December 28 between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. featuring live music from DJ Logic. Admission will cost $5 and the fee will give attendees a free raffle ticket for a chance to win a 24 x 36 Artist Proof of a photo featuring Widespread Panic bassist Dave Schools signed by Schools and Weintrob. Additional tickets to win the print will be available on site. In addition, the studio will be hosting book signings for Larry Acquaviva’s memoir of life as a Widespread Panic roadie, Nobody Cares Who You Are. In addition to opening night, the exhibit will be open to the public December 29 – 31 between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. each day. The gallery is located at 919 Gallatin Ave., Studio 6 in Nashville.
