The Infamous Stringdusters have been added to the 2019 Newport Folk Festival lineup. Scheduled for July 28, the Grammy-winning bluegrass band will join Trey Anastasio, Portugal. The Man, Hozier, Stephen Marley, Lake Street Dive, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and others on the festival’s Sunday lineup. The 2019 Newport Folk Festival will take place at Fort Adams State Park July 26 – 28.

This year, the Newport Folk Festival has tasked each artist on the lineup to choose a meaningful music-education cause. Once identified, the Newport Festivals Foundation will make a donation in the act’s name. The donation in the name of the Infamous Stringdusters will go to United Sound, which provides students with special needs with music experiences. Specifically, the money will be used to start a new chapter of the organization in a Rhode Island public school, with the funds covering everything from teacher trainings to curricula, method books and flashcards.

As Andy Hall noted in a statement, “Music is widely known to be a powerful learning tool for students with special needs. We are very grateful to Newport Festivals Foundation for making a donation on our behalf to United Sound!”

The executive director of United Sound, Julie Duty, added,

To say that I was surprised by the call that we received from Newport Festivals Foundation would be the understatement of the year! We are so grateful for the generosity of both the Infamous Stringdusters and Newport Festivals Foundation to support our work and our students. Launching the first United Sound chapter in a new state is always exciting and we’re thrilled to do so in Rhode Island with the amazing support and partnership of both groups!

The Newport Folk Festival spans from July 26 through 28, returning to its home at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island. In addition to the Sunday lineup, the bill promises performances from Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band, Sheryl Crow, Kacey Musgraves, Jeff Tweedy, Warren Haynes The Highwomen, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Maggie Rogers and more. Tickets to the 2019 Newport Folk Festival are sold out.
