By Scott Bernstein Apr 4, 2015 • 10:05 am PDT

The AP reports “Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Tracey Watson said Burns’ vehicle went off a curve in a road near Cartersville just before midnight Saturday, striking a mailbox and a tree.” Sadly, Burns was killed in the accident which is still under investigation by the GSP.
Bob Burns was a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd between the group’s founding in 1964 and 1974, though he did leave the band for a period in the early ’70s before quitting permanently a few years later. Burns contributed to both of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s first two official albums: (Pronounced ‘Leh-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd) and Second Helping. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame along with the rest of Lynyrd Skynyrd in 2006 when he performed with his old mates for the first time since 1974.
The JamBase team would like to send our thoughts and prayers to Bob Burns’ friends and family.
