Hurray For The Riff Raff Shares ‘Living In The City’ Official Video

Earlier this year ATO Records issued the excellent Hurray for the Riff Raff album The Navigator. The band has shared an official music video for the album track “Living In The City.”

In preparing for the new release, frontwoman Alynda Segarra drew inspiration from her alter ego Navita Milagros Negrón — “The Navigator” for whom the album is titled. The 12-track The Navigator finds Segarra exploring her Puerto Rican heritage and childhood being raised in the Bronx. The result is a song cycle that comes together like a self-described “imaginary Off-Broadway musical.”

The video for “Living In The City” was was filmed in New York City and directed by Giselle Bailey. Segarra stated the following regarding the video:

I wanted Giselle Bailey to direct “Living In The City” because I am a fan of her work and I knew she understood that I wanted to represent the New York City I grew up with. Women taking over public space and making room for ourselves in a society where we are so often threatened into hiding. I learned at a young age that survival in the city for me meant having a crew. Together we could move through the concrete maze and create some sense of freedom.
