Hozier returned to Saturday Night Live as the musical guest for the show’s Christmas episode on Saturday, December 21. The Irish singer-songwriter performed both his 2024 single “Too Sweet” and a beautiful cover of the Pogues’ “Fairytale of New York.”

Saturday’s episode, which Martin Short hosted, marked Hozier’s second appearance on SNL. Hozier previously made his debut on the NBC late-night sketch comedy program in 2014.

Hozier played into his Irish roots by covering “Fairytale of New York.” Originally released by the Pogues in 1987, the song has become a staple of the holiday season.

The song’s emotional resonance has deepened with time, as both original vocalists are now deceased. Shane MacGowan, the Pogues’ lead singer, passed away at age 65 in 2023. His duet partner Kirsty MacColl tragically died in a boating accident in 2000.

“Too Sweet” was released by Hozier in March on his Unheard EP. The song was the musician’s first to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
