When Hotline TNT rolled into KEXP in May, the band fronted by Will Anderson had not yet released their third album, Raspberry Moon, which arrived the following month via Third Man Records. Their performance previewing the since-released album was posted by the Seattle-based radio station.
Anderson played guitar alongside fellow guitarist Lucky Hunter, bassist Haylen Trammel and drummer Mike Ralston. While the two previous Hotline TNT albums were primarily created by Anderson alone, Raspberry Moon had the full input of the other musicians.
“It had its ups and downs,” Anderson told KEXP’s Cheryl Waters about the new approach. “It was a little hard for me at first to let go of all the control, but once I finally did, I feel like we got some of our best results. So, that’s hopefully some growth as far as opening up the songwriting and the band and the project and everything.”
Anderson led his bandmates through a series of Raspberry Moon songs while at KEXP, rolling out “Break Right,” “Julia’s War” and “Candle.” The session ended with “Son In Law” from the second Hotline TNT album, 2023’s Cartwheel.
