Holly Humberstone made the trip to 30 Rock on Wednesday to serve as the musical guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The British singer-songwriter performed “To Love Somebody,” the latest single from her forthcoming sophomore studio album, Cruel World.
Humberstone will release the follow-up to 2023’s Paint My Bedroom Black on April 10 via Interscope Records. The 26-year-old wrote the material on the LP through daily studio sessions with collaborator Rob Milton. The songstress dropped “To Love Somebody” earlier this week after putting out the single “Die Happy” back in November.
Of “To Love Somebody,” Humberstone shared:
“I wrote ‘To Love Somebody’ after watching someone close to me go through a brutal heartbreak. It’s better to have loved and lost, even when it sucks, because feeling everything is part of the human experience. Loving hard is a painful thing and there are two sides to love and they exist in the same space to me. They are all real, brutal and vulnerable experiences. This blue and green ball just keeps spinning and you learn to ride things out.”
Holly Humberstone was backed by her touring band for the Fallon appearance. The stage was kept dark with Humberstone dressed in white to provide a contrast while she sang the dark fairytale.
