Yesterday afternoon Terrapin Crossroads hosted a special happy hour performance featuring Holly Bowling. The pianist was joined by the venue’s proprietor, Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh for the free outdoor set on the Backyard stage.
Bowling and Lesh were assisted by Ross James on electric guitar and Eric DiBerardino on acoustic guitar for the set. Phil sang the opening “Friend Of The Devil” and Holly took lead on “Deal.” DiBerardino also led them through such Dead classics as “Althea,” “Brown-Eyed Women” and “Ramble On Rose.”
Toward the end of the performance the quartet played “Eyes Of The World,” the song Holly arranged for JamBase’s Grateful Dead tribute series Songs Of Their Own which is also featured on her upcoming solo LP Better Left Unsung. A gorgeous “Stella Blue” and “Ripple” combination closed out the happy hour festivities.
