Watch Hiss Golden Messenger With William Tyler At 2015 Pickathon Festival
Hiss Golden Messenger welcomed singer-songwriter William Tyler at the 2015 Pickathon Festival on Pendarvis Farm outside of Portland, Oregon. The festival shared the collaborative set as part of their Concert A Day archival series during quarantine raising money for MusiCares’ COVID-19 Relief Fund.
Framed by the branch lattice backdrop in the sylvan setting of The Woods Stage, Hiss Golden Messenger led by mastermind MC Taylor — and also featuring touring member and multi-instrumentalist Phil Cook (listen to the recent JamBase Podcast with Cook) — kicked off the set with the call and response of “Brother, Do You Know The Road.” HGM continued with “Saturday’s Song” and “Lucia” — which featured a smokin’ slide solo from Cook — off Hiss’ 2014 album, The Lateness Of Dancers.
Taylor and company continued with “A Working Man Can’t Make It No Way” and “Sufferer (Love My Conqueror)” from the HGM LPs Poor Moon and Haw respectively before returning to The Lateness of Dancers with “I’m A Raven (Shake Children).” “Southern Grammar” and “Blue Country Mystic” would come next ahead of set closer, a cover of outlaw country legend Waylon Jennings’ “Lonesome On’ry and Mean.”
