TERRIFIC SAN FRANCISCO BAND
RESURFACES FOR HANDFUL OF EAST COAST DATES

HGM by Terri Loewenthal
Hiss Golden Messenger emerged from the ashes of beloved SF cult rock band The Court and Spark in 2006-2007. While largely dormant since main Messenger Mike Taylor moved back East, the band is currently performing a few shows in Philadelphia, New York, Brooklyn and Bovina, NY. A deliciously slippery mix of Quicksilver Messenger Service San Fran style pysch, warm reggae one-drop, long haired folk and a number of other inviting but hard-to-pin down flavors, Hiss Golden Messenger is an experience worth having.

HGM’s first full-length record, Country Hai East Cotton will be released quite soon. In the meantime, they will have shirts (based on Bob Welch-era Fleetwood Mac t-shirts, “except of lower quality,” jokes the band) and a second pressing of their live performance in Big Sur from 2007 at fire-sale prices at these shows. They will also be taping a performance soon with Irene Trudel for later broadcast on WFMU. Hey, any band nifty enough to lure The Mother Hips‘ Tim Bluhm into joining the band as guitarist and back-up vocalist while they were in SF is pretty cool, just on principle, right? Spread the good word, dial into the Hiss.
