H.E.R. performed a live session for iHeartRadio’s Living Room Series presented by State Farm. Accompanied by socially-distanced band mates, the set featured a timely new song, “I Can’t Breathe” as well as a cover of Green Day’s “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams”

H.E.R. (guitarist Gabriella Wilson) recorded the session at a Brooklyn recording studio. She started the performance by stating:

I really want to recognize all of the people across various communities that are promoting justice and equality and peace and passion. We need that unity right now.

This first song is called “I Can’t Breathe” and just by the title you know that it means something very kind of painful and very revealing. I think it’s necessary — these lyrics were kind of easy to write because it came from a conversation of what’s happening right now, what’s been happening, and the change that we need to see.

I think music is powerful when it comes to change and when it comes to healing and that’s why I wrote this song, to make a mark in history. And I hope this song does that.

The set continued with the Green Day cover, followed by “Uninvited” and “Make The Most” the latter featuring Lonr. The session ended with H.E.R. performing “Fate” from Wilson’s 2019 album, Get To Know H.E.R..

The performance raised money and awareness for The National Urban League. Watch below:
