Heart were the guests on a recent episode of SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show. The band’s Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson discussed bringing Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant to tears with their “Stairway To Heaven” performance at the Kennedy Center and also covered another LZ classic.

Led Zeppelin received the Kennedy Center Honors from Barack Obama in 2012. Heart’s Nancy and Ann Wilson — who Stern noted played in a Zeppelin cover band — were tapped to pay tribute to Zep with a performance of perhaps their most iconic song, “Stairway To Heaven.”

Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson told Stern how the cold December Washington D.C. night nearly froze her fingers as they were whisked from the car to rehearsal. Clips from the performance showed Plant getting misty eyed during Heart’s rendition of “Stairway,” which featured late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham’s son Jason Bonham on drums.

Watch Ann and Nancy Wilson explain why they thought they moved Robert to tears.
