By Jeffrey Greenblatt Oct 18, 2018 1:32 pm PDT

HeadCount executive director Andy Bernstein and co-chair Marc Brownstein were guests on the new episode of the unPhiltered podcast. The pair chatted with host Cliff Sloan about a wide range of topics during the nearly hour-long episode.

unPhiltered “delivers an insider’s unflinching look at the people, issues and influences that shape the multibillion-dollar charitable giving industry.” Bernstein and Brownstein discussed the non-profit voter registration organization’s origins and inspiration along with its core mission of being non-partisan even in these divisive times. Bernstein stressed the importance of getting people engaged and involved, while Brownstein instilled the notion of a return to critical thinking and emphasized that elections are decided by the people in the middle.

The chat also touched on a defining moment for HeadCount in the days after the March For Your Lives, when their tweet about how and where people age 16 and 17 could register to vote went viral. Additionally, Brownstein talked about HeadCount’s evolution starting with 40 clipboards and voter registrations forms to now having registered over 400,000 people. The pair attributed the success to their volunteers who they called the “heart and soul” of HeadCount for their ability to engage with voters at concerts and events. The HeadCount co-founders went on to talk about their current The Future Is Voting campaign as well as Participation Row, the organization’s traveling “social action village” that was created in an effort to foster awareness.
