The Hard Quartet Announces 1st North American Tour

The Hard Quartet — Stephen Malkmus, Matt Sweeney, Jim White and Emmett Kelly — announced their first tour of North America. The extensive 2025 Spring Tour excursion features Sharp Pins and Evischen splitting opening duties.

Malkmus is a co-founding Pavement guitarist and leader of his solo band The Jicks. Among Sweeney’s many guitar and bass credits is co-founding Chavez, as well as Superwolf with Bonnie “Prince” Billy. Multi-instrumentalist Kelly is the primary member of The Cairo Gang and performed with Sweeney in Superwolf. White’s extensive past drumming credits include the Dirty Three and many others including The Double with Kelly. The Hard Quartet’s self-titled debut album was released earlier this month.

After touring Australia in January, The Hard Quartet kicks off the North American leg of the tour on March 21 at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville with support from Sharp Pins. The run continues at Atlanta’s Variety Playhouse on March 22 and Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro (North Carolina) on March 23. The band then heads to Washington D.C.’s 9:30 Club on March 25 and Philadelphia’s Union Transfer on March 26 before a performance at Warsaw in Brooklyn on March 28. The month wraps at Paradise Rock Club in Boston on March 30.

The foursome heads to Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall on April 1, followed by Saint Andrew’s Hall in Detroit on April 2 and Thalia Hall in Chicago on April 3. The Hard Quartet plays Minneapolis’ First Avenue on April 5 ahead of shows at Granada Theater in Dallas on April 25 and Scoot Inn in Austin on April 26.

Evischen takes over support duties starting with concerts at Nile Theatre in Mesa (Arizona) on April 29 and The Observatory in Santa Ana (California) on April 30. The tour continues with an outdoor performance at Pappy + Harriet’s in Pioneertown (California) on the May 2.

The Hard Quartet then hits The Bellwether in Los Angeles on May 3 and Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on May 5. Revolution Hall in Portland hosts the group on May 7 before the tour concludes with shows at The Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver on May 8 and The Showbox in Seattle on May 9.
