Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, the man known to music fans as Sting, was born in Wallsend, Northumberland, England on this date in 1951 which makes today his 65th birthday. The bassist came to prominence as the front man and principal songwriter for Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame act The Police. After parting ways with the band he found continued success as a solo artist who is a musical chameleon of sorts that changes sounds with each passing album. Sting’s next album 57th & 9th is said to be a return to his rock roots and is set to be released on November 11.

Between May 28, 2007 and August 7, 2008 The Police played 151 shows across the globe for a reunion tour no one saw coming in the years prior to Sting making the decision to reunite the famed trio for their first performances since 1984. Drummer Stewart Copeland’s son Jordan Copeland documented the tour for a 50-minute documentary titled Better Than Therapy.

Copeland’s inside access allows us to witness all the work that went into preparing for the tour and also displays some of the animosity between the band members that led to their breakup in the mid ’80s. Sting seems to have something to say about everything Stewart plays, but beyond the musical arguments we do see the true love these three have for each other. There’s even cameos from Kanye West and John Mayer. Take a look:
