Happy Birthday Ron Wood | Bob Marley & Wailers Guest Spot

By Scott Bernstein Jun 1, 2015 9:50 am PDT

Guitarist Ron Wood was born on this day in 1947 in Hillingdon, England. The legendary axeman came up through the ranks as a member of The Birds and Jeff Beck Group before helping to form Faces with Rod Stewart, Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones. In 1975 Ron Wood received the call to replace Mick Taylor in The Rolling Stones and he’s been a member of the band ever since.

To celebrate Woodie’s birthday, let’s look back at the night he sat-in with Bob Marley & The Wailers at Oakland Coliseum Arena in Oakland on November 30, 1979. The show contains 19 classic Marley songs and finds Ron Wood emerging for a six-song encore that included takes on “Natty Dread” and “Jammin’.” Pro-shot, black-and-white footage of the entire show is available on YouTube thanks to Music Vault.
