Happy Birthday Questlove | Roots With Trey, Warren And Bobby

We’d like to wish a very happy birthday to The Roots drummer Ahmir Khalib Thompson, aka Questlove, who turns 44 today. Questo is not only a ridiculously talented drummer, but he’s also a human music encyclopedia who is open to all sorts of music ranging far beyond the hip-hop world. Over the past few years we’ve had a chance to see Thompson use both his knowledge and his skills to charm the world as a member of the house band on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and more recently on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

We want to look back on Questlove’s appearance at the renovated Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York as part of a HeadCount Benefit on September 7, 2012. For the encore of the show, The Roots were joined by a number of jam legends including Trey Anastasio, Warren Haynes and Bob Weir as part of a six-song finale. The Roots backed the Phish front man on “First Tube,” “Bathtub Gin” and “Pigtail,” before Weir, Haynes, Grace Potter and Bobby Keys emerged for “Dancing In The Streets,” “The Thrill Is Gone” and “Whipping Post.”

Let’s take a look at the “Whipping Post” finale shot by LazyLightning55:
