Happy Birthday Peter Gabriel | Live In Germany 1978

By Scott Bernstein Feb 13, 2015 10:10 am PST

Today marks the 65th birthday of singer-songwriter, musician and social activist Peter Gabriel. Gabriel started his career as the front man for Genesis and went on to become one of the biggest solo artists of the ’80s thanks to hits such as “Big Time,” “Sledgehammer” and “Digging In The Dirt.” In more recent years Peter has promoted many social causes and has embraced world music. Last year, Peter Gabriel was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame for the second time following his 2010 induction as a member of Genesis.

In honor of Peter’s birthday we wanted to share an outstanding video from one of his first tours as a solo artist. Gabriel has always surrounded himself with exceptional musicians and the band he brought to Germany on September 15, 1978 shows as much. For this show, Peter is joined by Tony Levin, Jerry Marotta, Larry Fast, Timmy Capello and Sid McGinnis. Peter mixes songs from his first three solo albums with a riveting take on the Genesis classic “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway” during the powerful hour of music that was broadcast on German TV’s Rockpalast. Take a peek:
