Happy Birthday Jorma Kaukonen: Jefferson Airplane On ‘Cavett’

We’d like to wish a very happy birthday to Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, who turns 75 today. The Washington, D.C. native co-founded Jefferson Airplane and was a key member of the band through their “dissolution” in 1972. In 1969 Jorma founded Hot Tuna with fellow Airplane member Jack Casady and the pair have kept the group going through the present day.
Shortly after the music stopped at the original Woodstock Festival in 1969, some of the event’s performers taped a special Woodstock edition of the Dick Cavett Show. Jefferson Airplane were among those acts and closed out the episode with an energetic performance of “Somebody To Love” followed by a rousing instrumental jam as the credits rolled. David Crosby joined the Airplane on guitar and vocals for the sequence. Watch how it went down:
