Happy Birthday John Oates: Bonnaroo Superjam 2013

One-half of the widely successful duo known as , today marks the 68th birthday of guitarist John Oates. Recently brought into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame alongside his band mate Daryl Hall, the pair came to prominence behind such smash hits as “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)” and “Maneater.” Daryl Hall & John Oates are set to tour this summer with Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, and on his birthday here’s a look back at his appearance at Bonnaroo in 2013.

Oates was on hand in Manchester, Tennessee to help head the Rock & Soul Superjam alongside the likes of My Morning Jacket’s Jim James and Carl Broemel, Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard, The Meters’ Zigaboo Modeliste, and Lee Fields, Cyro Baptista and others. In celebration of John’s birthday today, below are a couple of officially shared videos from the incredible Superjam.

First up is a clip of Howard & Oates leading the ensemble through Sam & Dave’s “When Something Is Wrong With My Baby.” The video showcases the live performance as well as behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage focusing on Sly & The Family Stone bassist Larry Graham, watch:

This next clip features the Superjam rendition of “Love Train” by The O’Jays. Oates shares lead vocals with singer Bilal on the R&B classic which is followed in the video by more rehearsal scenes and the live performance of the James-lead take on “Use Me” by Bill Withers, check it out:
