Beloved Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury was born on this date in 1946. The man with a voice that remains among the most celebrated in rock ‘n’ roll history, died at the young age of 45 following a battle with AIDS. Mercury and Queen became the quintessential arena rock band in the late-1970s and early-1980s behind Freddie’s powerful singing and onstage theatrics.

One of Queen’s arena rock favorites — “We Will Rock You” — began a medley of songs performed by the Ohio State Marching Band at halftime during OSU’s football game against Oregon State University last Saturday. The halftime entertainment also featured portions of the Queen hits “Fat Bottomed Girls,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “Bicycle Race” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” all set to intricate choreography.
