Happy Birthday Dickey Betts | Dickey Jams With Willie Nelson

Today, guitarist Dickey Betts turns 71-years-old. Betts was a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band and was a member of the group until he parted ways with the legendary act in 2000. Dickey is the total package -not only can he lay down incendiary solos, but he’s also an incredible songwriter responsible for such classics as “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed,” “Jessica” and “Ramblin’ Man.”

To celebrate Dickey’s birthday, let’s watch Betts team with an all-star band that includes Willie Nelson, Leon Russell and Edgar Winter for a memorable performance of “Southbound.” While it’s clear this video was filmed for television in the ’80s, we haven’t found the specific date when it took place. If you know where it’s from, let us know by leaving a comment or hitting us up on Twitter. With that in mind, check out “Southbound”:
