Happy Birthday Dave Schools | Chattanooga Panic 2001

We’d like to send our best to Widespread Panic bassist Dave Schools as he’s celebrating his 49th birthday today. Schools’s influences are equal parts Grateful Dead, The Who and Black Sabbath -a musical stew we can get behind. The bassist isn’t showing any signs of slowing down as he adds membership in Todd Snider’s Hard Working Americans to his already formidable resume.

Let’s flashback to a Widespread Panic show from Fall 2001 in Chattanooga, TN. Schools was on fire this night and even throws an “Another One Bites The Dust” into the mix just before an insane “Chilly Water.” You knew the crowd was in for it when “Low Spark” was the second song of the show. The late Mikey Houser shines throughout the evening on his familiar Fender Telecaster. Watch some of the best fan-shot footage from the era to circulate:

Set One: Greta, Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys, Rock, Clinic Cynic, Space Wrangler, Henry Parsons Died, Nobody’s Fault But Mine, Big Wooly Mammoth, Conrad

Set Two: Don’t Tell The Band, Imitation Leather Shoes, Mercy, Chilly Water, Mr. Soul, Drums, Chilly Water, Dyin’ Man, Pusherman, Climb To Safety

Encore: Pilgrims, Goin’ Out West

[‘Sympathy For The Devil’, ‘Third Stone From The Sun’, and ‘Another One Bites The Dust’ teases by Dave after ‘Drums’]
