Happy Birthday Dave Grohl: First Show With Nirvana

Today marks the 49th birthday of multi-talented musician Dave Grohl. The current Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer has become a critically acclaimed and commercially successful force in rock music.
In addition to directing an HBO miniseries about the making of the last Foo Fighters record Sonic Highways, Grohl has kept busy in recent years with several other projects, including work with Queens Of The Stone Age and the supergroup Them Crooked Vultures which he formed with QOTSA’s Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones and saw Dave back behind the drum kit once again. For Dave’s birthday today, here’s a throwback to his days as the manic drummer that was about to be part of the biggest band on the planet.
Back on October 11, 1990 Grohl performed his first show as Nirvana’s new (and final) drummer. The band performed at North Shore Surf Club in Olympia, Washington and footage of the show has survived and been shared to YouTube. The first clip below features a cover of Shocking Blue’s “Love Buzz” which Nirvana recorded and released as their first single in 1988. The second clip shows the tail end of the concert, starting with the end of “Love Buzz” and includes “Scoff,” “Silver” and a cut-off “Turnaround” Devo cover. Below both clips is audio of the entire show.
