Happy Birthday Bernie Worrell: Talking Heads At The Capitol Theatre 1980

Legendary keyboardist Bernie Worrell was born in Long Branch, New Jersey on this date in 1944. Worrell is best known for his work as a founding member of Parliament Funkadelic as well as for his tenure as a member of Talking Heads’ touring band. Bernie was recently diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and was honored at a benefit in New York City earlier this month. To celebrate Bernie’s birthday, let’s take a look at a full Talking Heads concert from 1980 featuring Worrell on keys.

For the Remain In Light Tour David Byrne & Co. were augmented by Bernie on keys and Adrian Belew on guitar as well as bassist Busta Cherry Jones, vocalist Dollette McDonald and percussionist Steve Scales. Over the course of eighty magical minutes at The Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey on November 4, 1980 the Talking Heads roll through such classics as “Psycho Killer,” “Crosseyed & Painless,” “Life During Wartime,” “Cities” and “Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On).” Thanks to pro-shot footage from Music Vault, we can watch this incredible set over and over again:
