Happy 70th Birthday Mickey Hart | The Tommy Lee Not Fade Away

We’d like to wish a very happy birthday to former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, who is celebrating his 70th birthday today. Hart is spending his birthday the way he’s spent most of them over the years -by playing music as the Mickey Hart Band has a gig in Las Vegas tonight. Hey, not a bad place for a celebration.

One of the many things we love about Mickey is his openness to new musical experiences. As an example of this, we wanted to share video of a crazy collaboration orchestrated by none other than rapper

. On April 20, 2008 Hart played in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park as part of the now-defunct Green Apple Music Festival. For Hart’s finale he brought up Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee to jam on “Not Fade Away,” along with a band that included Joan Baez, Michael Kang and Bob Weir.
