Today marks Phish front man Trey Anastasio‘s 49th birthday. Big Red has had an incredible year as Phish is on top of their game, he was nominated for a Tony Award after a musical he scored made it to Broadway and he released his first studio album in six years.

To celebrate, we’ve compiled a handful of videos showing Anastasio in top form. We start with this clip of Anastasio’s “St. Stephen” solo from a June 30, 2006 guest spot with Phil Lesh and Friends:

Recently, an upgraded version of Phish’s June 23, 1989 performance at The Paradise in Boston, MA surfaced on YouTube and throughout the hour-long clip Anastasio plays with a mix of speed, passion and heart that would soon make him a star:

Here we see Trey tear into “Reba” at the band’s legendary October 31, 1994 performance in Glens Falls, NY. Some fans consider this the best “Reba,” see if you agree:

Finally, Anastasio had a field day with the monstrous “Tahoe Tweezer” Phish laid down this summer. Check out his handiwork on the final 12 minutes of the wonderful jam:
