Hana Vu visited independent radio station KEXP in July during a tour stop in Seattle. The Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter/guitarist picked four songs from her sophomore album, Romanticism, for the in-studio live session.

Ghostly International issued Romanticism in May featuring 12 tracks co-produced by Jackson Phillips. The album followed Vu’s 2021 well-received debut album, Public Storage. Hosted by Cheryl Waters, the KEXP session saw Vu accompanied by drummer Graham Littlejohn, bassist Sean Edwards and guitarist Satchell Brown.

“Being a romantic is is different from being a romanticist, as you said,” Vu told Waters of the album’s title. “It has a more sad, dreary, nostalgic but existential quality to it than maybe ‘romance’ and and being ‘romantic.’ I felt like it encapsulated the the themes in which I was trying to get at. I really like it when an album just is called what it is. So that was the intention.”

Pulling exclusively from Romanticism, the setlist consisted of “Hammer,” “Airplane,” “How It Goes” and “Care.” Check out the full performance here:
