Legendary performer Gregg Allman brought his Laid Back Festival to the beautiful Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado on Sunday, where Gregg played his first set since a bout of pneumonia led to his hospitalization and the cancellation of a number of shows. Allman performed an acoustic set with guitarist Scott Sharrard at an event that also featured sets from ZZ Top, Richie Furay Band, Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band, Gabriel Kelley, Lucie Silvas, Levon and People’s Blues of Richmond.
Gregg focused on some of his most beloved songs including “Whipping Post” and “Melissa” during his set with Sharrard at Red Rocks. The pair also trotted out covers of Muddy Waters’ “I Love The Life I Live, I Live The Life I Love,” Sonny Boy Williamson II and Elmore James’ “One Way Out” and Jackson Browne’s “These Days” as part of the performance. Next up for Allman is a set at the Atlanta installment of the Laid Back Festival on October 29 followed by a November residency at City Winery in New York City.
