Gregg Allman Band Guitarist Scott Sharrard Guests With The String Cheese Incident In Brooklyn

On Friday night The String Cheese Incident teamed with Allman Brothers Band and Gregg Allman Band alumni to present an Allman Brothers Family Incident performance at the Peach Music Festival in Scranton. The band had been working for weeks with Gregg Allman Band guitarist Scott Sharrard to put together a set that was originally supposed to the the Gregg Allman Incident before Gregg’s health issues surfaced. SCI enjoyed working with Sharrard so much, they brought him out on Sunday night during the second of two shows at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn.

The String Cheese Incident opened with “Valley Of The Jig” ahead of the Michael Kang-penned “Black & White” and the year’s third “Yo Se.” Next up was “Farther,” which continues its return to heavy rotation after a long layoff. SCI then treated fans to relatively new tunes “Sweet Spot” and “Stop Drop Roll” before ending the set with one of their earliest songs – “Round The Wheel.”

Live staple “Desert Dawn” kicked off the second set before SCI gave the NYC faithful a taste of “Get Tight,” a song they debuted earlier this summer. Just the second “Rain” since late 2014 preceded Sharrard’s guest spot. Scott Sharrard added to covers of The Allman Brothers Band’s “Hot ‘Lanta” and “Southbound” as well as “On The Road.” The String Cheese Incident hadn’t performed “Southbound” since November 26, 2011. SCI then ended the set with a “Way Back Home” > “Whiskey Before Breakfast” > “Kashmir” sequence. The band said farewell to Brooklyn with a three-song encore that included covers of Waylon Jennings’ “Honky Tonk Heroes” and Jack Bonus’s “Hobo Song” as well as their own funk workout “Rosie.” Cheese hadn’t covered “Hobo Song” since July 15, 2012. Next up for the band is their headlining appearance at Suwannee Hulaween in Live Oak, Florida October 28 – 30.
