Greensky Bluegrass rolled into Utica, New York on Thursday for a concert at Saranac Brewery. The acoustic string band added electric guitar from moe.’s Al Schnier for a two-song sit-in at the end of the first set.
GSBG selected “Born Again” as the show opener and followed with Bill Monroe’s “Wheel Hoss.” The scarcely played “Just Listening” made a rare setlist appearance ahead of “Solstice” and “200 Miles from Montana.” The quintet then paired covers of Jimmie Skinner’s “Doin’ My Time” and Bruce Springsteen’s “Atlantic City.”
Schnier was brought on stage to join Greensky Bluegrass for the remainder of the first set. The guest added electric guitar to a performance of “Lose My Way.” Schnier stuck around for the set-closing “Reuben’s Train” cover.
Thursday’s second set was highlighted by a “Tarpology” sequence that segued into “One Slip” back into “Tarpology” then back to “One Slip” before completing “Tarpology.” The night ended with an encore consisting of Bob Marley’s resilient “Small Axe.”
