American Idiot: Person Detained After Unauthorized Drone Interrupts Green Day Concert In Detroit

Green Day was a mere 15 minutes into their concert at Detroit’s Comerica Park last night when the band was rushed off the stage. The 10-minute delay came after a drone was spotted flying above the stadium.

“There was an individual that flew a drone into Comerica Park, so Green Day was taken off stage,” Detroit police Cpl. Dan Donakowski said as per The Detroit News. “Shortly after that, they went back on stage to perform. DPD located this individual outside of Comerica Park. He is being detained pending further investigation.”

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong was singing the second verse of 1994 hit “Longview” when a crew member hustled the band off stage. Fans were left confused as a message was displayed a few minutes later on Comerica Park’s screens reading, “Show Pause. Please standby for details.”

The trio returned after 10 minutes and picked up where they left off. Green Day then performed “Welcome To Paradise” before Armstong spoke to the audience. “There ain’t no motherfucker that’s gonna stop us, I’ll tell you that,” he proclaimed. The rest of the show continued sans incident.

A message on Green Day’s X feed was posted late in the show addressing the situation. “Detroit! Sorry for the delay in the show tonight,” the post read. “Stadium security had us clear the stage while they dealt with a potential safety issue. DPD quickly resolved the situation, and we were able to continue. Thanks for understanding.”

Green Day are performing 1994’s Dookie and 2004’s American Idiot at every show this tour to celebrate the album’s 30th and 20th anniversaries. The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid and The Linda Lindas are opening. The tour hits Denver on Saturday, September 7.
