The Grateful Dead has detailed the next installment of their long running Dave’s Picks live archival series. Dave Pick’s Volume 24 features a recording made by Owsley “Bear” Stanley of the Dead’s underrated gem of a show at Berkeley Community Theatre on August 25, 1972.
Fans of the Grateful Dead’s famed Veneta, Oregon show from two days later should enjoy Dave’s Picks Volume 24. Standout moments include an adventurous “Truckin'” > “The Other One” sequence, a bit of an unusual “Stella Blue,” an exploratory “Playing In The Band” and gorgeous versions of “Bird Song,” “Black Peter,” “He’s Gone” and “Loser.” Bob Weir also shows off some of the material from the recently released Ace including the aforementioned “Playing” as well as “Black-Throated Wind” and “One More Saturday Night.”
Dave’s Picks Volume 24 is currently available for pre-order until the limited run of 16,500 individually numbered copies are sold. Jeffrey Norman mastered Bear’s recording to HDCD specs and the set features photos by Michael Parrish, tour notes from the road, and original illustrations from Dave Van Patten.
