Grateful Dead Perform ‘Loose Lucy’ In 1990: Pro-Shot Video
The Grateful Dead unveiled previously unreleased pro-shot video featuring a performance of “Loose Lucy” as this week’s installment of the band’s All The Years Live video series. Recorded on July 16, 1990 at Rich Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, the show was one of the last for keyboardist Brent Mydland before his tragic death just 10 days later. The Dead’s lineup at the time featured Mydland plus guitarists Bob Weir and Jerry Garcia, bassist Phil Lesh, drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann.
“After a 16 year hiatus, ‘Loose Lucy’ returned to the repertoire on March 14, 1990 at the Capital Center in Landover, Maryland, and it was an incredibly well-received bust-out,” wrote GD archivist David Lemieux. “It came back in its slower, 1973 arrangement, not the peppier 1974 arrangement as heard on Mars Hotel. There was nothing better than hearing tens of thousands of fans singing the chorus back to the band: thank you for a real good time!”
